When Italians moved to Canada, they brought with them the traditions and recipes of their country. Pizza was a simple dish for them. 1. Luis Lanza.

One of the first to make a name for himself in the pizza business was Luis “Vetrano” Barbatti. He emigrated from Italy, opened a barbershop at the age of 21, and in 1919 opened a salon serving pizzas, a real pizzeria. Louis Barbati also went into the take-out business, selling pizzas by the slice. He did not deliver, but customers could order via a telephone system he had developed. It was a complex system using ropes and pulleys, but it worked.

2. Patsy’s Pizza.

  • Patsy’s Pizzeria is a pizzeria located in southern Canada, New York. It was founded in 1933 by Pasquale “Patsy” Rancelli and his wife Carmella. The original location was at 2287-91 1st Avenue. Originally known as Bono Pizza, it was renamed Patsy’s Pizzeria when Patsy Lancieri moved to 2287-91 First Avenue.
  • Patsy died in 1959 and was replaced by Patsy Grimaldi, a pizza maker. He is now retired but occasionally makes pizzas.
