How To Build Decking Around Pool?

Who says a round peg cannot be placed in a square hole? An above-ground pool’s value, appeal, and build decking around the pool immediately increase. You may follow the instructions in this article to create a rectangle deck around a circular pool. After you have bygga trall runt pool, you’ll soon be eating poolside or sunbathing.

The thing to consider before building decking around the pool

The thing to consider before building decking around the pool

Make sure you have a precise record of the pool’s height and diameter. To calculate the deck’s dimensions, you will need this information.

  • Establish the size of your deck. To allow swimmers to easily stroll, provide enough space between the deck’s perimeter and the pool’s borders.
  • Obtain any required licenses. Bring a preliminary draft of your design to your neighborhood building department or invite a building inspector to your house.
  • Your inspector will advise you on the rules governing stairways, handrails, guards, and other components that might be governed by municipal laws.
  • Before you start construction, make your final designs based on the inspector’s suggestions and specifications, and obtain all essential permissions, notably electrical permits if your new pool deck will have them.
  • Select the decking type you wish to use. In general, pressure-treated wood is excellent, but you could prefer a composite material.
  • Use pegs hammered into the ground to lay out the deck around the pool deck. To determine the deck’s outer perimeter, pull a string line from the corners. We’ll use a 21-foot pool deck for our example.
  • The position of an inner post should be marked around 1′ (30 cm) from the pool’s edge. Find the post that is 4 feet (1.2 meters) distant from that location. The distance between your deck’s perimeter border and a post shouldn’t be greater than 4 feet (1.2 m).
  • Add the distance between the pool däck and the inside post, multiply the result by 2, add the diameter of the pool deck, and finally multiply the result by pi to determine the number of posts you’ll need (3.14159). You will then be given the circumference. To get the number of posts you’ll need, divide that number by 4. The pool deck in this instance has a circumference of 21 feet (6.4 m), and the post is 1 foot (0.3 m) away from it: (1×2 + 21) * 4 = (23 * ) 4 = 18.06. For the inner ring, 18 posts are required.

Installation

On top of the earth, install the precast concrete pier footings. Purchase precast concrete piers for your deck’s support that include sockets for 4″ x 4″ treated wood posts. The majority of U.S. locations permit this kind of building but check with a local inspector to make sure. Configure them as follows:

  • Place the piers precisely where you indicated for your posts.
  • With a level, examine the pier’s two sides. Up until the footing is level in all directions, keep correcting the ground.
  • In the opening at the top of the concrete piers, insert a 4″ x 4″ post. Use a 4-foot level to mark a line on each of the 4″ x 4″ posts by laying the level across the top of the pool deck cap.

The piers’ posts should be taken out.

Draw another line by measuring below the one you just drew. The space between the two lines should be equal to the width of the pool deck cap multiplied by 1-1/2 inches for the decking, 5-1/2 inches for the floor structure, and an extra 1/2 inch for expansion.

Reposition the posts inside the piers.

  • Put the Deck Framing in Place
  • Install treated 2″ x 6″ deck supports all the way around the pool deck.
  • Each interior pier facing the pool deck should have the deck supports fastened into the side of the pier.
  • Using 2-1/2 inch deck screws, fasten the supports to the inside piers.
  • Make sure the supports are level by using a level. Additionally, check that the supports are square at the corners using a square.
  • To designate the outside edge of the deck, lay up another pair of 2″ x 6″ deck supports.
  • Using 2-1/2 inch deck screws, fasten the supports to the external sides of the piers.
  • Verify that the supports are square and level, and make any necessary changes.

Using 3-1/2 inch 16d galvanized nails, toenail joist hangers vertically to the inside of the supports. To ensure that the joists are parallel to the deck supports, put one joist hanger on the inside of each support at a spacing of 16 inches. Each joist hanger should be 16 inches in the center of the middle. This indicates that the 2″ x 6″ joist board’s center is at the 16-inch mark. Pool deck floor joists made of 2″ by 6″ treated wood should be inserted into the joist hangers. Apply 10d galvanized nails to the joists to fasten the hangers to them.

If the deck is higher than 30 inches, place diagonal 2″ x 4″ bracing there. The bracing should be parallel to the pool’s edges and run between the piers from inside to outside. Build the Deck. Install 2″ x 6″ decking starting from the pool’s outside support. To allow for growth, the decking should be placed around 1/2 inch from the edge of the pool deck

Using a jigsaw, adjust the board’s edges where they lay on the pool deck wall as necessary.

  • Decking planks should have spacers between them to allow for expansion and drainage.
  • Look at the intersection of the decking and the perimeter supports’ outside edge.
