Start explorer.exe again
Your HP laptop may go black if the explorer.exe process is closed (possibly by virus).
Explorer.exe manages your desktop, taskbar, and other tasks. Your desktop and taskbar are invisible on your laptop. If it is closed, your screen will go black.

- If you are using Windows 7, click the Details tab or the Processings tab.
- Scroll down to locate the Explorer.exe process.
- If the answer is yes, close the process by clicking End Task.
- Try restarting your HP laptop to see if the black screen disappears.
- You can do the same thing if explorer.exe is not listed in the list:
- You can still click File to open Task Manager. Select Run a new task.
- Type Explorer.exe, and hit .
- You can then check if your computer is back to normal.
Check Power Supply & Battery:
- First, ensure that the adapter you use is compatible with your laptop . It must also be capable of producing a sufficient current and voltage. A defective adapter, or a third-party charger, could cause your laptop to malfunction. You can verify that your charger is correct by checking the fuse in your laptop’s plug.
- Next, inspect the wires of your laptop charger. You will need a replacement if the insulation has become damaged from excessive or careless use.
- To check if your laptop’s battery is defective, remove it and replace it with a new one. If the laptop turns on again, that means the battery was defective. You will need to replace your laptop’s battery with a brand new one.
