INTRODUCTION:

 

Delhi, the capital of India, has a record itself. It is the Union Territory (UT) of India. The city is built with fascinating forts, mosques and monuments. There are two different worlds in Delhi – New Delhi, and Old Delhi. The population of Delhi is almost 1.96 crores. The area is also best known for its delicious cuisines. The street food of Delhi is also very famous among the visitors. Also, there are many markets including Chandni Chowk, the most famous commercial area.

1. Red Fort:

The red fort was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan between 1638 to 1648. Red Fort is also called Lal Qal’ah. The fort is built with red sandstone. Red Fort gets its name from its huge red colour. The fort is spread over 255 acres. Today this Fort is one of the top tourist places in Delhi. Every year, on Independence Day the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag at this historical monument.

This property is now under the control of the Archeological Survey of India. You can go here from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. The nearest metro station is Chandni Chowk, New Delhi.

2. Qutub Minar:

 The word Qutub Minar means axis in Arabic. This is located in the Mehrauli area of New Delhi. Qutub Minar was constructed by Sher Shah Suri. In 1803 Qutub Minar suffered serious damage in an earthquake. Its height is 73 metres. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in Delhi. During the month of November-December, a cultural event is held here named Qutub Festival. During these three days of festivals, you will see various amazing performances by dancers, musicians and artists. Now Qutub Minar complex is under the protection of the Archeological Survey of India. One can visit here from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The nearest metro station is Qutub Minar metro station, New Delhi.

Tomb of Adham Khan,Dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki,Zafar Mahal,Jahaz Mahal,Hauz-i-Shamsi,Jamali Kamali Mosque and Tomb,Tomb of Balban.

 

3.Humayun’s Tomb:

 Humayun’s Tomb is also known as Maqbara-e–Humayun.This mausoleum was built near the Yamuna river. The tomb was designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyas who was a famous Persian architect. Which is built in red sandstone. It has a height of 154 feet and a width of 299 feet. In 1947 at the time of the country’s partition, Humayun’s Tomb served as a refugee camp. After that, this monument came under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India. Now it is a well-known tourist place in Delhi. You can visit here from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. The entry fee is 30 rupees for Indians only.

4. Lotus Temple:

 Lotus temple is also known as Kamal Mandir.Mainly famous for its beautiful architecture. It was unlocked to the public in December 1986. It was built over 26 acres of land. This huge temple was designed by Fariborz Sahba, an American-Iranian architect. This temple is unique as there is no idol of any god. Today it is a popular religious tourist attraction. It is the first temple in India that made use of solar power. The nearest metro station is Kalkaji Mandir.You can visit here October to March(9:30am-5:30pm) andApriltoSeptember(9:30am-7:00pm).

Near Lotus Temple, one can see – Kalkaji Devi Temple, ISKCON Temple, Humayun’s Tomb, Safdarjung Tomb, India Gate etc.

 

5. Jama Masjid:

 Jama Masjid is situated in Old Delhi.It was constructed from 1650 to 56. Now it is a marvellous example of Mughal architecture. This architecture is built in red sandstone and marvel. It has three gates and four towers. You can visit here from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Remember during the prayers entry is not allowed. If you want to visit here by metro then the nearest metro station is Jama Masjid, New Delhi.
